In June 2025, our state conference was held for the second year in a row at the Moreton Bay campus of the University of the Sunshine Coast. We welcomed over 200 delegates to hear from 40 speakers on a range of topics including ancient and modern academic history, pedagogy, technology in the classroom and assessment preparation. Our keynote speaker was Professor Andrew Bonnell from the University of Queensland, who invited us to see 18th and 19th century revolutions through three ‘lenses’, making national, transnational and thematic links to deepen our understanding of such transformational change.
In a new initiative, our afternoon keynote took the format of a TeachMeet. We invited three educators – in a slightly extended TeachMeet time of 15 minutes each – to suggest how Professor Bonnell’s insights could be utilised in classroom practice.
The conference was also an opportunity to celebrate the work of educators across the state. QHTA’s most prestigious award, the Dr Russell Cowie Award for Excellence in Education was awarded to Ms Pip Macdonald, in recognition of her innovative, creative and influential leadership as President of QHTA. Six colleagues from across the state were also recognised through our Outstanding History Educator Awards. The full citations for all of our educator awards can be found here.
Our state conference for 2026 is replaced by a much bigger event – our hosting of the HTAA National Conference at the State Library of Queensland. Join us on 8th – 9th July for two days of inspiring professional learning. Find out more here.
