QHTA awards 1st, 2nd and 3rd cash prizes as well as Highly Commended certificates. Entrants may also be considered for the following awards which also receive a cash prize:

• The best essay on the theme of (Australian) First Nations Peoples’ History

• The best essay (Years 7-10, and Years 11-12) on the theme of Human Rights and Civil Liberties

• The R D Milns Award – awarded for the best research based historical essay on a topic from Ancient or Medieval History.

• The Russell Cowie Award awarded for the best research based historical essay on a topic from Modern History.
