
QHTA’s Historical Writing Competition
QHTA’s Historical Writing Competition invites students in Queensland and the Northern Territory to submit the following:
Years 7-12
- an essay or other historical writing (e.g. a report, diary entry, newspaper article, feature article) based on research
Years Y11 and Y12 only
- an Independent Source Investigation (ISI)
QHTA awards 1st, 2nd and 3rd cash prizes as well as Highly Commended certificates. Entrants may also be considered for the following awards which also receive a cash prize:
- The best essay on the theme of (Australian) First Nations Peoples’ History
- The best essay (Years 7-10, and Years 11-12) on the theme of Human Rights and Civil Liberties
- The R D Milns Award – awarded for the best research based historical essay on a topic from Ancient or Medieval History.
- The Russell Cowie Award awarded for the best research based historical essay on a topic from Modern History.
