HI, Everyone! The new website looks great. Very clean and easy to use. I bet you are glad it is finally up and running.

I love the idea of a Forum. It will really give members a voice. It is a great way to signal what members would like to see happening, or to ask questions or volunteer ideas or resources.

Can’t wait until my own website goes live.
Not sure what I should be writing here.
I’m Sue, I’ve been an Executive member this century and look after the Q History. I am studying a Doctor of Education at Griffith Uni and I’m interested in exploring how teachers of 7 to 10 are interpreting and implementing the Australian Curriculum: History. Thanks for having spell check technology built in!!

      Hi Sue and all others!
I’m a brand new teacher, six months in. I taught year eight history at Babinda State School in semester one. We studied Vikings and Polynesians. It was challenging for the kids. We used C2C materials adapted for a school-wide explicit teaching pedagogy. I will be doing a lot more work around breaking the historical skills into bite-size chunks so that next year the kids are more able to meet the standard. I’m feeling sad that I am done teaching history for the year already! I would love to hear more from others about how they are adapting materials to meet the needs of their students.
      kind regards

      Hi, Pauline

Just replied to your other post but should have read this first! I think you are expressing a frustration we all feel In working out how to best meet diverse needs. Chunking of micro-skills is certainly the key. I think having a focus on the key concepts is also important. Is there much of a schools network up your way amongst History Teachers? Be sure to look out for the History teachers PD QHTA has organised for up North in July- more details at //qhta.com.au/wp-contentuploads201706student-seminar-and-regional-pd-program-updated-doc/, Br

QHTA can also help advise schools who want to organise their own PD workshops (afternoons, or days). There are lots of ways we can help offer tailor-made professional development to schools, departments or district clusters. Just ask!

Keep up the reflection and planning.

      Hello

I’m Clair and I have been teaching history, geography and English for 7 years now. This is my first year teaching senior modern history-hooray! First of all a plug for all the PD which is put on by QHTA. This is the reason I continue to grow and stay inspired-nothing like standing on the shoulders of giants. I should have been a bit quicker to book the national conference as A couple of my preferred sessions are booked out.

Secondly, after reading the new Senior History syllabus I feel like a novice all over again. I know QCAA are running workshops in term 4 but I would love to see some PD/conversations happening at the QHTA level too.

Looking forward to the conference in September and having some conversations on the forum. ?

      Dear Claire

Always a good idea to let the Executive of QHTA know what PD you think would be useful, when & where?

      Sue
